National Standard examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Astronomy (Class 11, 12)

iapt.pngNational Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP), conducted every year since 1987, has become the most 'visible' activity of IAPT. It is a voluntary examination. More than 40,000 students at over 1200 centres, most of which are in small towns and villages, appear at this examination. The participation, purely voluntary, offers an opportunity to measure one's standing against a national standard. NSEP is not linked to any entrance or scholarship award.

Students are allowed to take away the question paper and the solutions are provided to them after a week. The NSEP is carried out in English, Hindi & a few other Indian languages.

Recognition:

Gold medalists in NSEP, after they complete their education, may join DAE directly through interview without appearing in their entrance test.

Scholarships:

A number of scholarships (subject to a maximum of 10) have been instituted to encourage students to take-up physics as a career. Those who seek admission in B.Sc. (with physics) after NSEP are eligible for these scholarships.

National Standard Examination in Chemistry / Biology / Astronomy / Junior Science

We organize National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) and National Standard examination in Biology (NSEB) in collaboration with ACT (Association of Chemistry Teachers) and ATBS (Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences). Both these exams are also at the Std. XII level.

National Standard Examination in Astronomy (NSEA) is examination leading to International Astronomy & Astrophysics Olympiads.

National Standard Examinations are held with the following objectives,
  • To enable the student judge him/her self against a national standard.
  • To present correct perspective of physics.
  • To increase the student-teacher interaction through discussion on the Question Paper.
From these examinations Meritorious students are identified, duly honoured and awarded medals & token prizes.

National Standard Examination (NSE) conducted by IAPT in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Junior Science is the first step for the worldwide Olympiad.

All further steps are conducted by Homi Bhabha Certer for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai.

After NSE examination, next step for the eligible students is the Indian National Olympiad (INO) examination in the respective subjects.
